Sonic Moves to B96 Afternoons as Dash Departs: A Radio Insight
The radio waves are buzzing with news as rhythmic throwbacks bid farewell to Chicago's '104.3 Jams' WBMX, making way for a new era. Afternoon host Sean 'Sonic' Leckie is now taking the reins at sister station CHR 'B96' WBBM-FM, filling the void left by evening host Jordan 'Dash' Weiss' departure. This move marks a significant shift in the city's radio landscape.
Sonic's journey in the radio industry is a testament to his versatility. He joined Audacy Chicago in May 2018 to host afternoons at WBMX, bringing his expertise from previous roles as Music Director and afternoon host at CHR 'Energy 103.7' KEGY San Diego, and morning host at 'Power 96.1' WWPW Atlanta. Sonic's talent has also been showcased through his work as a morning show producer and night host for 'Channel 93.3' KHTS San Diego, and his presence can be felt across Audacy CHRs nationwide.
In contrast, Dash's path to B96 was paved with success. He joined WBBM-FM in June 2023 from Hubbard Hot AC '101.9 The Mix' WTMX, where he hosted nights and the 'New Music Club' for three years. Dash's impact extended beyond the airwaves, as he worked on-air and as a producer for 100.3 WSHE Chicago, and held the role of MD/afternoon host at Alternative 107.1 WPGU Champaign IL.
Despite the changes, Dash's enthusiasm remains unwavering. He shared, 'I loved being on B96, we had so much fun during afternoons... I worked with AE’s and won the company revenue... and maintained the highest cume daypart on the station. Proud of my time at B. Sonic is a friend. I hope the best for him and I’m excited for what’s next!'
